An interesting new project that’s currently in beta by Google is their Web Stories for WordPress plugin. Web stories are tappable, engaging visual stories brought to the web which are powered by AMP, which is a way for webpages to load easier when accessed via a Google search.
We’re testing out the Web Stories on this site, and it’s interesting so far – creating a story is like creating something in Canva. It’s very easy to create something, and to add in more pages. It looks like you can have the stories auto advance (like in Instagram)
There’s also 8 templates (currently) in the dashboard available to help make creating a story easy.
This could be a really interesting way to create blog posts for fashion, beauty and lifestyle bloggers – the people searching the sort of things that will bring them to your site are the sort of people who already use Instagram Stories, so they’ll probably be more likely to click into those sort of posts.
Being a beta, there are still some bugs, but if you’re interested in testing, head over to their site to download the plugin, and submit any bugs on the Github page.
Stories are now a permanent feature of WordPress. It much easier to create one on the app than on the desktop because you have just click the stories buttion rather than use a block as in desktop. Although I have created two posts based on this feature I am at a loss how to best use it. The two posts I did are in the meantime posts while I try think of major posts. If anyone has used it I’d like to know how about their experiences and examples of how they used it.
