You’ve heard the rumours about it for a while, so we thought we’d take a look at Instagram Reels, to see what it’s all about.
Instagram Reels allows users to record short (15 second) creative videos, in a similar style to TikTok. Users will be able to create their own take on an audio clip used in another clip, record multiple clips with different effects and transitions, add timed text and more.
You’ll go into your Stories and then swipe across the bottom until you see Reels, and that’s where you’ll be able to find all the tools to create your own video.
You can see more about some of the features in this video created by Techcrunch last year:
Reels has been in testing since at least last November, where it was soft launched in Brazil. It’s currently available in Germany, France and India where it was launched in response to the Indian government banning TikTok.
Reels will be found on a separate tab on your profile, on the Explore tab (in a separate section) and you’ll be able to share them to your Stories. With the separate section on the Explore page for Reels, it’s possible that Instagram has been tweaking this algorithm (that dreaded word!) to be a little more useful as many of us have found the TikTok For You page’s algorithm.
Rumour has it that Reels will be launching fully this week in at least 50 countries with the UK likely being one of them, so if you want to get on top of that, now’s the time to start looking at your old content to see what can be repurposes or start planning what you’re going to do!
