We’ve all heard about banned hashtags on Instagram – use the wrong hashtag in your caption and no one will see your post – but finding a list of these hashtags can be difficult. Lists are out of date or just use the same lists so no matter how much research you do, you just end up with the same 15 hashtags not to use.
We’ve gone through tons of different hashtags and checked whether they’re banned or not – and we’ll check them on a regular basis, because there’s no point in a list if it’s out of date!
How do you know if a hashtag is banned? If you go to the explore page for that hashtag, you’ll see the following message:
Recent posts from # (hashtag) are currently hidden because the community has reported some content that may not meet Instagram’s community guidelines. Learn more
On a desktop, this will appear at the bottom of the page, and if you’re on the mobile app, it will appear at the top.
