Giveaways are a great way to attract readers (at least in the short term) but if you’re a relatively smaller blogger, it might feel difficult to get the word out there about the giveaway and get people to enter!
Having an optional entry where people can tweet a message like “Check out the giveaway on @bonjourblogger here! http://www.bonjourblogger.com” for an entry usually attracts a few new people to the site – you could retweet an entry every day or so to remind your own followers but try to avoid more than too many retweets as you might lose some followers!
Mentioning the giveaway on the various hashtags that different blog genres use is also another way to get the word out – although try to avoid tweeting when the blogger chats are happening so your message doesn’t get lost!
Advertising in Facebook groups is a good way to get seen by lots of new readers – you can check out our post here about different groups, but if you know any others, share them in the comments!
When promoting the giveaway, try not to spam too much – it can be tempting to post everywhere at once, but spamming can actually drive new readers away from your site.
Schedule some tweets using Buffer or Hootsuite, especially around the last 24 hours of the giveaway reminding people to enter – “only 3 hours left to enter my giveaway!”
Don’t forget to make entering the giveaway as easy as possible – if it’s too much effort, then readers aren’t going to bother! Use something like Rafflecopter to control the entries and make sure you’re aware of any rules and restrictions of giveaways in your own country.
Good luck!
