It’s always pretty sad when a service closes, especially when it is one that so many people use. nrelate closed it doors on 31st December, so we thought it would be useful to round up some alternatives for you! If you did use nrelate, then if you haven’t already done so, you’ll need to remove the tags from your layout.
Any service
The following services should work with most blog platforms
Content.ad
This is actually another form of monetisation, but there is an option to change the amount of sponsored content from 0% (all your own links) to 100% (all sponsored links). This could be a pretty easy way for you to earn a little money from your blog!
content.ad
LinkWithin
LinkWithin is pretty simple to set up, you just provide it with your email, URL, which platform you’re on, and how many related posts you want, and it will give you the code to insert in your blog.
linkwithin.com
EngageYa
EngageYa has more optimisation options available in the dashboard, so if you’re not so comfortable with tweaking your CSS, then this might be a good choice for you.
engageya.com
WordPress
With a self hosted WordPress account, you have so much more choice available with all the plugins around. Bloggers on WordPress.com don’t have a choice of service, but it’s already built in for you, so there’s not much work to do. Just enable the related posts in your settings as detailed here and you’re done!
Jetpack
If you’re a WordPress user without Jetpack, then you’re missing out on some seriously useful features from the WordPress team. Once installed, you’ll need to connect it to your WordPress.com account, but then you’ll gain stats, email subscriptions, and a mobile theme, amongst others.

This plugin is one of the recommended replacements by nrelate, and gives you the ability to not just show your own content at the bottom of the post, but also related posts from around the web.

Shareaholic
Shareaholic doesn’t just provide you with related posts, but also sharing options for various social media platforms.

I’m gutted by nRelate closing but my favourite sub so far has been the Jetpack related posts plugin :) it looks clean and professional and there’s no dodgy links underneath!
And actually, I’d say it’s even BETTER than nRelate at finding posts that actually match the current one my readers are looking at.
Five stars! :)

I just switched to Jetpack on my personal site (Bonjour, Blogger! has it built in, although I’m not sure how good this version is compared to others!) because I didn’t want to install another plugin, but it’s looking good so far!
