The dream for most bloggers is to work full time on their blog – but for most of us, it stays a dream. This means we have to try and fit in our blog around our work life or other commitments – here are a few ways that we use to keep on top of things
Work to Time
Setting a timer can help you get focused – if you know that you need to get that blog post written in 25 minutes, then you’re more likely to get it done in that time instead of getting distracted by everything else. We’ve written before about the Pomodoro technique which is really useful!
Remove distractions from your work area
…or whatever helps you work best. You probably know from school and uni what helps you get things done, so get your work area set up the way you like it, get that playlist on that doesn’t distract you and get on with it.
Keep A Notebook
This is probably the most important part of keeping on top of your blog – keeping a notebook in your bag means you can scribble down blog post ideas wherever you are, write up todo lists and even start writing out your blog posts. Sure, you could do this on your phone or iPad, but sometimes it’s just good to get pen to paper!
Keep Ahead Of Yourself
We all have those days where we’re not at all inspired to get anything done, but if you take advantage of the days when you’re super motivated and can crank out the blog posts like a blogging machine, then you can keep posts back to be able to take a day or two off when you need to. Of course, you can still post on the fly as you need to – something may come up that you want to tell your audience about quickly that’s time sensitive (a sale at your favourite site? An event in your city that’s happening this weekend?) so just rearrange your calendar and you’ll still keep a little ahead of yourself!
Make The Most Of Your Time
When we posted daily, getting up an hour earlier than usual helped to get posts written up – if that’s something that’s more manageable for you, then try it out. Some people are just morning people, so take advantage of it!
What tips do you have to share about fitting your blog life around your other commitments?
Gosh!!! so helpful.. It’s not always easy.

I do nearly all of them things too!
I always keep drafts of posts as well so I know I have some later on so when it comes to posting I can just post and not worry about finishing it off, its good to have things done in advance. I also keep a notebook and a to do list of what I need to do and try and stick to it, but i agree its not always easy.
I started my blog a couple of months ago so i really need to start putting allocated time aside in the evenings like you have mentioned in your post to get stuff done. I have found doing blog photography in block really helpful. Tanicici xx
