We always think of the start of September as the start of a new year, maybe you do too! With a new school year and all the changes that may be bringing with it, you probably have a plan to get your blog up and running or totally revamped. We’ve put together a few questions to ask yourself before getting your blog started, so you have a decent idea of how things are going to work for you.
What is your mission statement?
In the most basic terms, what’s your blog about. If you needed to describe what your blog aim was, how would you do that in a few sentences? Having a simple but effective mission statement for your blog can help to reinspire you when you’re feeling a bit unsure about why you’re doing it.
Who is your ideal reader?
Knowing who your target audience is will help to make blogging easier, as you’ll be able to write specifically to that imaginary person. If you try to write your blog posts to everyone, it may end up not being read by anyone.
How often will you aim to post
How often can you create truly amazing content? What will fit into your life without causing too many issues? We’re huge fans of scheduling blog posts around here, and doing this means that you won’t feel like you need to rush to get a post up on the specific day you’ve chosen.
Will you be selling products or monetising your blog in any way?
Some bloggers aren’t interested in making money from their blog, and that’s totally awesome – you should do what feels right for you. However, if you do want to make a few pennies, there are tons of different ways to do that – you could do things like sell your own eBook, banner advertising, sponsored posts. You can check out this post for a list of the various ways to earn money from your blog
What blogs do you look up to?
Look around the blogosphere, and there are bound to be a few bloggers in the same niche as you that are killing it – they’re getting the sort of partnerships you would love, they create images that you adore and they write in such a distinctive way that you have to read their post as soon as it’s published. While it’s easy to feel envious of this, turn that into an inspiration!
How can you use social media to promote your blog?
There are so many social media platforms, so when you’re trying to focus, it’s best to pick one or two that will perform best for you. You can always expand when you have more time, or by using more automation services to post for you.
Remember, there is no right answer to how you blog – it’s whatever works best for you!
