What is your blog about? Fashion and Style. I am focusing on thrifted items and fashion on a budget. There are also quite a few DIY and re-fashion projects!
Is this your first blog? No, I had a LiveJournal before, that was more about my personal life and life abroad. Now I only have BeingZhenya.com and Storyandahalfofourlife.wordpress.com – a blog dedicated to our new and very first house!
When did you start your current blog? I started BeingZhenya.com in November 2010, but didn’t start actually blogging on a regular basis till February 2011
What made you do it? I was going through a tough phase in life. I was away from my fiancé in my home country (Russia) taking care of my grandma who was dying from cancer, so the blog became my creative outlet.
What was your first blog post about? It was more of an introductory post called “Wondering”
What do you think is the most useful tool to you as a blogger? I love Twitter – the connections that are made are so useful and it’s so fast!
Do people in your “real life” know about your blog? Of course! I tell everyone about it!
If yes, has your blog helped you career wise? It really hasn’t, but I am hoping it will in the nearest future! I work in a different industry, but am planning on using it on my resume very very soon!
What has been the one thing (blog post, project, etc) you’ve been really proud of? I think it’s my Refashion post when I turned a black maxi dress into an LBD with peplum! http://beingzhenya.com/2013/01/14/dress-refashion-maxi-to-peplum/
Where do you see your blog in a year? Well, definitely more refashions and DIY’s, and more thrift find posts. I think it’s going to be where it is now, just with more traffic!
What do you wish you knew when starting your blog? I wish I knew where I wanted it to go from the start! But I like where it’s headed now.
What do you wish you know about now? How to make more connections in the fashion industry faster!
How do you keep motivated to post? I read other blogs and that keeps me going! Other people are my motivation!
Anything else you’d like to add? I was born and raised in Russia, but moved to the States! I have also had an opportunity to travel through Europe and live on the East Coast! My passion for everything vintage is something I inherited from my Grandma and now keep looking for unique pieces every time I am shopping out and about! I have a Master’s Degree in Cultural Studies. I am married and work as a toddler teacher at a day care in the Twin Cities.
