What is your blog about? Ooohlalaa It’s Fashion is a platform of style, runway exclusives and trend setting. Whilst my main focus is fashion I also incorporate beauty and lifestyle into my posts. From the hottest pieces off the catwalks to high street styling or the awards season red carpet, I work around the clock to bring my readers the hottest trends from the runway and street,
Is this your first blog? Ooohlalaa It’s Fashion is my first blog. What started out as a blogspot page has transformed into a website with an international audience and I cannot thank my readers enough.
When did you start your current blog? Since my last Bonjour, Blogger! interview, Ooohlalaa It’s Fashion has transformed. Whilst I have spent the past two years laying the foundations, in order to make my blog successful, it has been within the last year that my focus and determination has reached an unprecedented level. My blog began on the 2nd March 2013, few months later I stepped away from blogspot and made it into an international fashion website.
What made you do it? Fashion is everything. It’s what I think about every minute of every day whether consciously or subconsciously. Whilst runway fashion is my favourite and I adore the red carpet, particularly awards season, I know it was important to provide my readers with high street alternatives. Beauty and lifestyle are also essential to my overall vision of Ooohlalaa It’s Fashion. There is something for everyone, whether a Pantone colour enthusiast like me or just someone looking for a little advice on how pack a suitcase for your summer holidays, my posts range in all categories.
What was your first blog post about? My first blogpost was an introduction which I believe is incredibly important. My readers have seen me change over the past two years as I develop Ooohlalaa It’s Fashion.
What do you think is the most useful tool to you as a blogger? Social media. Without social media you are relying on word of mouth to gain recognition. Hootsuite is my favourite tool as it allows your to schedule posts for when everything else gets a little too busy. It means your blog is never lacking attention.
Instagram is perfect for allowing people to take a glimpse into your life. When people see your photos and style then they can decide whether they want to visit your site. If your posts are effortless, carefree and have a little sass you can appeal to a little piece of anyone.
Do people in your real life know about your blog? If yes, has your blog helped you career wise? Yes. Despite keeping my blog a secret for the first few months, letting the world know about its existence was key to its success. I’m a student and also work constantly so finding the time to blog is hard work, but also an escape into fulfilling my true passions. It is also ridiculously rewarding. I have been a blogger for two years and work for various companies as a result of this. If you are going to do something that you love, put everything into it- that is what attracts attention.
What has been the one thing (blog post, project, etc) that you have been really proud of? My favourite posts, and the ones I find most challenging, are my fashion week ones. Twice a year I blog S/S and A/W runways with two weeks of couture in between. This includes an entire month of blogging every night in each fashion season. I choose my favourites from the runway shows of that day and comment on their trend and technique. This proves a little difficult as we start in New York then hop over to London, Milan and Paris. The time difference in New York means many late nights and Paris is always the longest of the fashion weeks. However the comments I receive from my followers make it all the worthwhile.
Where do you see your blog in a year? Bigger, bolder, better.
What do you wish you knew when starting your blog? How time-consuming it would be …
This is my biggest challenge but I absolutely love doing it and have learned to cope with it really well. I want my posts to be the best they can be so if this means going to bed five hours later then so be it. After all if Tom Ford can survive on four hours of sleep a night, so can I.
What do you wish you know more about now? This one hasn’t changed, it is still definitely Google analytics!! I am finally getting there but analysing stats is completely overwhelming to begin with, luckily the companies I work with are very knowledgeable when it comes to this!
How do you keep motivated to post? I thrive on success. Blogging is rewarding because you put into it as much as you want out of it. It’s exhausting, and requires a lot of work but then again so does success. Girls gotta kill it.
