What is your blog about? My blog is primarily a beauty blog with fashion and lifestyle posts thrown in when I feel like it.
Is this your first blog? Yes, and I am absolutely loving writing it.
When did you start your current blog? 10th of May 2013, its only a baby still!
What made you do it? I have always been interested in make up and have always wanted to work in some sort of it. So after reading a couple beauty blogs, I thought ‘hey I could do this’ and I thought it would be good to show or bring up to any potential employers.
What was your first blog post about? An Alice in Wonderland Makeup Tutorial that I was wearing to a party.
What do you think is the most useful tool to you as a blogger? Connections. Whether its social media, PR, or just friends in the blogging community. I think it is so important to have that interaction, because after all it’s not what you do in life that helps you ‘make it’, it really is who you know.
Do people in your “real life” know about your blog? If yes, has your blog helped you career wise? Yes, pretty much everyone who knows me knows I have a blog. I’m proud of it. It maybe small but it’s mine and I try and make sure I write good content and like to share that with the people I know. I wouldn’t say it has helped me career wise – yet. But it is a good talking point in interviews as it shows you are dedicated and work hard.
What has been the one thing (blog post, project, etc) you’ve been really proud of? It would have to probably be my MUA Lipstick Review getting 1000 views in a day, and being posted on their facebook page, twitter. I was so excited to see people actually wanted to read my blog and liked what they were reading. I was pretty proud of myself then.
Where do you see your blog in a year? Maybe with my own domain name? I don’t know, that is a pretty tough question. Having a bigger audience and maybe be nominated for a Cosmo Award – that would be amazing! But who knows!
What do you wish you knew when starting your blog? To not be so nervous about having your own voice, and not writing how you think you should sound but how you are normally. It has helped my confidence grow so much.
What do you wish you know about now? Maybe more about charges and advertising etc, but to be honest at the moment I am really happy with my blog and there isn’t really much that I’m like ‘damn I wish I knew how to do that’.
How do you keep motivated to post? I am the worst person for keeping motivated, if I get frustrated about something I just leave it. But with my blog I almost feel bad not posting, its something I really love doing and would genuinely spend all my time writing if I could, so I guess that helps a lot.
Anything else you’d like to add? Don’t be scared that no one will read or care about what you say. For ages I um’d and ah’d about writing a blog because I thought exactly that. But if you just go for it and show that you’re passionate about something, chances are that someone will also be as passionate and want to read what you have to say! Oh god, that sounded so corny! But its true.
