What is your blog about?
I run a fashion, beauty and lifestyle blog with a bigger focus on the ‘beauty’ side… I love make-up and I’m pursuing a career in it so my hobby can be my job!
Is this your first blog?
My first successful one yes!
When did you start your current blog?
January 2014
What made you do it?
It was originally a New Years Resolution, because at school we were being encouraged to do extra curricular things that may boost job applications and things. I was a regular reader of other blogs and beauty gurus, and it is something I wish to pursue a career in. I previously found commitment to blogs difficult due to being too busy or unorganised and running this blog has really helped me learn to prioritise and organise, and the motivation of not being defeated by another New Years Resolution really helped me carry it on and continue it. Plus people actually followed this blog so I felt obliged to provide!!
What was your first blog post about?
It was a “What’s In My Make-Up Bag!” post, which probably needs to be updated now I think about it…
What do you think is the most useful tool to you as a blogger?
This might be quite obvious and something some people might overlook but I find hashtags really helpful, they’re great for finding things quickly and finding common ground with other bloggers. Something that I know would be useful and need to use more would be a notebook, and writing idea and things down as they come rather than trying to rack my brain when I start to blog! I also find images really useful, and one of – if not the best – ways to liven up a post.
Do people in your real life know about your blog?
Yes
If yes, has your blog helped you career wise?
Yes actually, even though I was only 16! My hairdresser Vicki Lord, a Vidal Sassoon Trained Session Stylist with 23+ years experience in her back pocket was so impressed with my blogging and internet skills she hired me to be her Social Media Manager for a few months until she found a professional! It was great experience and I was very grateful :)
What has been the one thing (blog post, project, etc) that you have been really proud of?
The whole blog all together! I’m proud of how committed I remained and everything I have learned in the past year from just practising what I love and reading and writing all about it :)
Where do you see your blog in a year?
Bigger and better!!!
What do you wish you knew when starting your blog?
I wish I was automatically a wish with all the html codes and how to do get it to look like I have it pictured in my head… it’s getting there. It’s just had a makeover actually!
What do you wish you know more about now?
I’m still not perfect with the technicalities of blogging, and I wish I knew more about what my followers want from me! I’m in the middle of setting up an anonymous suggestion box but I’d like some pre-feedback on how successful it would be, because I think it would be very useful.
How do you keep motivated to post?
Not letting my followers down! I found it really hard in exam times, and post-exams I was so busy doing everything I couldn’t do in the run up to and during the exam period not being able to post. It’s summer now and I’m back to stay. I have some plans in mind that might allow me to blog more during school terms.
Anything else you’d like to add?
Just that I love blogging and I’m so glad I decided to start All Made Up. I love interacting with fellow bloggers so don’t be shy and tweet or email me!!
