Name Amy and Ashley
Age 24 & 25
Location London
Blog URL thegreedygirls.com
What is your blog about? Food! The Greedy Girls is our joint food blog about our adventures in eating, cooking, and life.
Is this your first blog? No – we each have another food blog of our own. Amy runs www.shecookssheeats.com while Ashley has www.peachtreesandbumblees.com.
When did you start your current blog? We started The Greedy Girls in autumn last year – it’s been going for a few months now and we’re amazed at how quickly it’s growing.
What made you do it? We’re best friends and we share a real passion for food and eating. Cooking is what brought us together and we wanted to share that other people.
Ashley – Amy’s better at savoury stuff and pastry, while I like to bake cakes and sweet things, so we complement each other nicely.
What was your first blog post about? Ashley – It was a recipe! It’s Amy’s ‘beginner’s burrito‘ and it’s absolutely amazing.
What do you think is the most useful tool to you as a blogger? Amy – I love Google Analytics, as I like to see what goes down well with our readers. That’s what helps inspire us to come up with more ideas for content. Ashley loves Tweetdeck as she can keep an eye on all her social feeds at once, as well as scheduling tweets when she’s having a busy day.
Do people in your real life know about your blog? Yes, all three of our blogs have helped us both. Having a blog is a fantastic demonstration of commitment and it shows off technical and editorial skills, which can be incredibly useful. Both of us feel we would not be where we are now without blogging.
What has been the one thing (blog post, project, etc) that you have been really proud of? We’re most proud of our joint videos. We’ve done videos on our own in the past, but our chemistry and friendship means filming together is so much fun. We’re also able to help each other with the technical aspects.
Where do you see your blog in a year? We’re hoping to be bigger and better in a year’s time, keeping our current readers and finding lots more! We’re dedicated to making the site as brilliant as possible.
What do you wish you knew when starting your blog? We always remind ourselves that a new blog takes time to become established – it’s an organic process.
Amy – I never realised people would actually read She Cooks when I began it!
Ashley – I didn’t know you don’t have to post every day – for the first three months of Peach Trees, I posted 7 recipes a week! Nightmare!
What do you wish you know more about now? Amy – self promotion. I still find it awkward talking about myself and my blog on Twitter and Facebook.
Ashley – I wish I knew more of the digital stuff, like SEO and analytics. Thankfully that’s where Amy comes in!
How do you keep motivated to post? Amy – I look at our comments and hits, as well as the photos people send in when they’ve made one of our recipes. It really inspires me to keep posting and sharing.
Ashley – I think having two of us helps – we count on each other to make the blog as good as it can be, so I know if I don’t post my weekly recipe, I’ll be letting Amy down. It’s also inspiring to see our page views climbing week on week – I love getting a real influx when people love a particular recipe.
Anything else you’d like to add? Blogging is all about fun – if you’ve got a shared passion or hobby, doing a joint blog is a great idea. It takes the pressure off whilst encouraging you to be better and improve. Plus you can share the joy and success when it’s going well!
