What is your blog about? My blog is a lifestyle blog. I blog about my life as an illustrator and mother of a cute toddler boy named Wilf. I started this blog almost as a pin board of beautiful things I found on the Internet and current artists and designers I was in love with. It then evolved into showcasing some of my own work.
When I fell pregnant my blog took a turn to becoming more of a ‘mummy blog’ and certainly for the first year of Wilf’s life the main subject was him! Now I am branching back out into the world of illustration again and taking inspiration from fashion much more than I have in the past year or so. I would consider my blog to be a ‘Lifestyle blog’ simply as it covers all aspects of my life!
Is this your first blog? Yep!
When did you start your current blog? I’ve been blogging now for almost 4 years!
What made you do it? I remember distinctly what made me start my blog. I rarely used the Internet at the time (a weird thought to me now as I am addicted to all things social media). I was at work googling something to do with felt plush dolls to find inspiration for my designs; I stumbled across a blog called Milk Tooth’s Rain. I had never even heard of a blog before and was lost for the entirety of my break just going through pages and pages of posts. From there I discovered A Beautiful Mess and was hooked! I went home that evening and created my blog!
What was your first blog post about? It was on my (at the time) favorite clothing label Numph
What do you think is the most useful tool to you as a blogger? In terms of gaining readers my biggest tool is Twitter, I get the most hits through there and find it has helped increase my readership massively.
Do people in your “real life” know about your blog? Yes I used to post on my personal Facebook page but since then I started to draw the line between me as a person and me as blogger. I have set up a Facebook page for my blog and don’t share my entries with my friends. My mum and dad still read every post though.
If yes, has your blog helped you career wise? Since having Wilf and quitting my office job I work freelance in blogger outreach. My blog was the reason I was contacted for this role so yes!
What has been the one thing (blog post, project, etc) you’ve been really proud of? I have shared many personal things on my blog. There is no one post that means more to me than another but when I get emails from readers saying how a certain post had helped them though a difficult time it means the world to me.
Where do you see your blog in a year? Hopefully the same place, with a few more readers and a new camera lens :)
What do you wish you knew when starting your blog? I wish I had known more about social media, my parents and Tom were my only readers for about two years..
What do you wish you know about now? Google+ –
what is that about? Is it worth it to bother with it as a blogger??
How do you keep motivated to post? Life live, document it
Anything else you’d like to add? Thanks for having me! x
