What is your blog about? My blog is a mixture of topics, but its usually fashion based with the odd beauty and lifestyle post thrown in. I’m not a big fan of sticking to one theme, so I tend to blog about whatever suits my mood that week!
Is this your first blog? It’s not actually. I started a fashion blog when I was about 16, however I didn’t really get into it as I was only following a lot of ‘high-fashion’ blogs, so I never really felt like my little blog fitted in and eventually I gave up. That was probably a good thing though – I feel like my 16 year old thoughts would have been pretty cringy to read back now hah! I then had a tumblr account for a few years, but I’m not sure if that really counts.
When did you start your current blog? emmerliejay.co.uk was first started in March 2012.
What made you do it? I started working in a marketing agency where I needed to research a lot of fashion blogs and also contact bloggers, I was really quickly drawn into the ‘community’ feel, friendliness and closeness of fashion blogs. I felt like I could relate much more to these girls, much more than the blogs I’d previously read, so I wanted to get involved too!
What was your first blog post about? It was just an introduction really. You can read it here if you would like… it’s thrilling!
What do you think is the most useful tool to you as a blogger? My most useful tool is definitely Twitter. It’s so good to communicate with other bloggers, keep up with who’s got new posts online and also promote your own posts to readers too!
Do people in your “real life” know about your blog? Yes, my family and friends know about my blog – I don’t keep it a secret but I would never post it on my personal Facebook account for some reason!
If yes, has your blog helped you career wise? Yes, I do feel like it has helped my career. It hasn’t helped me get a job or anything like that as I started my blog after my current job, however I feel like it’s helped me develop my knowledge within my own job role. I have to contact a lot of bloggers, so I feel like I know how I would like to be approached for my own personal blog. I hope this comes across and bloggers don’t just feel like I’m a corporate, marketing person!
What has been the one thing (blog post, project, etc) you’ve been really proud of? I always feel quite proud of my blog design, it’s nothing really special but I always feel good after giving it a spruce up – knowing that it’s my html knowledge and research that’s made it look like that! I also get quite proud when I feel like my photography is improving, I always admire blogs with beautiful images and it’s one thing I’m always aspiring towards!
Where do you see your blog in a year? I have no great dreams for my blog really, it’s just my little place to write, so hopefully it’s still going in a year and people still enjoy visiting it!
What do you wish you knew when starting your blog? I wish I knew how much harder it would be to keep up a blog, a social life and work full time. I wish I had made the most of working part time, which I was when I first started blogging – I could have done so many posts!
What do you wish you know about now? I wish I knew more about photography. Like I said earlier, I always admire blogs with amazing images and hopefully I can learn more in that respect and improve.
How do you keep motivated to post? I try to post around twice per week and sometimes I will admit it is a struggle, but just thinking about how far my blog has come keeps me going really. I don’t want to let my blog go downhill and stop just because I’m having a bad week – sometimes it just takes a little break from blogging and then I feel like posting again!
Anything else you’d like to add? Thanks for having me Bonjour, Blogger! I hope your readers have hopefully gained something from my experience of blogging. If anyone would like to chat then feel free to tweet me!
