We’ve been huge fans of Polyvore for many years (even covering them on here in Sept 2013) so we were sad to see the news last week that Polyvore was bought out by a company called SSENSE and being shut down immediately.
Polyvore was great for creating quick collages of products for blog posts, so we’ve put together a few alternatives – we haven’t tested these ourselves yet but would love to hear what you think of them if you’ve used them.
- Shoplook – they’ve been pretty hot at trying to attract the Polyvore users who still want to use the site
- ChicVore – invite only at the moment
- ShopStyle Collective – creating collections and looks is a great way to collage items
- Creating your own – using sites that remove the background from images, you can then use them in your favourite image editing app
You can download any data from Polyvore and opt out of being migrated to SSENSE from their account update page but be warned – we were unable to login with our details and could not get a forgotten password link sent.
This situation with Polyvore is a good reminder for bloggers to save as much as possible to their own websites as relying on external sites can backfire.
