What is your blog about? My blog is a bit of an extension of my personality and ‘things I couldn’t fit anywhere else’. It primarily documents my style (Converse and heels all to be seen!) and my everyday musings: the days pass by so quickly that it’s nice to have somewhere to offload thoughts and frivolous fashion chatter aside from work!
Is this your first blog? Technically, no! I’m one of those Livejournal/Xanga/Freewebs/Myspace girls of the generation. I even ran two website graphic sites and also a Taylor Swift fan site. Yeah… But fashion blog and nearly-taking-it-seriously blog wise, yep, first blog!
When did you start your current blog? I set up my Blogger account in maybe June 2008? I posted my first Daisybutter blog post in October 2009 and then started regularly blogging in January 2010. It’s all been a long work in process!
What made you do it?
I’d been reading the likes of Sea of Shoes, Style Scrapbook and Fashion Toast for positively months, and then came across some UK beauty and fashion blogs on a whim. I’m not sure what happened but something clicked and I realised I could also have a part in the budding community. There were only a handful of us at the time!
What was your first blog post about? My first post was a Burberry Prorsum runway report. Was it AW10?! I think Christopher Bailey had finally brought Burberry back to Britain and it was their first online stream, so of course I had to scrabble some thoughts together and post it somewhere, anywhere.
What do you think is the most useful tool to you as a blogger? My Samsung Galaxy S3 is a godsend! I read blogs on there, cobble together snippets of blog posts for after-work-composition, Tweet, take shoddy phone photos, Instagram… everything. As a blogger on the go, my phone is definitely my most useful tool.
Do people in your “real life” know about your blog? Yep! I didn’t mean for it to be that way but once my blog was very tentatively nominated for a Marie Claire Blog Award and then later a Cosmo Blog Award, my Mum just couldn’t stop talking about it, and real life friends began to piece things together!
If yes, has your blog helped you career wise? I’m not really sure on this – if it has, my colleagues have never said so! Of course my blog has helped me hone skills that now apply to my everyday role…
What has been the one thing (blog post, project, etc.) you’ve been really proud of? I was really proud and overwhelmed to be nominated for a Marie Claire Blog Award. I was sat in an Art History seminar when they emailed to let me know and that entire seminar is a complete blur to me now – whoops! I’m also quite proud of my recent campaign with Osiris for Specsavers.
Where do you see your blog in a year? Ooh I’m not sure. I’d love to see its international reach grow and for me to finally balance that level of my personal style with lifestyle snippets. I have a clear idea of what I want to be posting, but currently no resources or time!
What do you wish you knew when starting your blog? … how to use Blogger (or to train Blogger – pesky CMS system) to make my posts look how I wanted to!
What do you wish you know about now? How on Earth do you other bloggers organise your wardrobes?! Bit of a taboo subject, non?
How do you keep motivated to post? I’m quite a creatively minded person already, so post ideas and feature ideas are forever springing into my head. I like to note titles, etc. down and refer to them when I have a quiet 15 minutes, then add a little to it when I’m inspired. I rarely feel ‘unmotivated’ to post, I just love putting posts together, writing chunks of almost meaningless copy… everything!
Anything else you’d like to add? Not that I can think of! Thanks for featuring me, BB!
